Musical Material
Beatriz Ferreyra

Beatriz Ferreyra is an original pioneer of musique concrète and an influential member of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) in Paris, she has stood at the vanguard of electroacoustic experimentation since the 1960s. In her own work, she explores an intuitive method of free electroacoustic composition that embraces a range of tape cutting techniques as well as acoustic instrumentation and electronic technologies. In this conversation (with sound clippings), we retraced her career, experiences and musical practice.

This artist talk, within the framework of Musical Material, was recorded by West two years ago during Rewire festival. Hannah Bosma, a Dutch musicologist at the University of Amsterdam, moderated this informative conversation about composing with the eyes or ears, the difference between analogue and digital editing and the power of Miles Davis.
