The word bikini was introduced in 1946 by a French designer who took the name from Bikini Atoll, one of a series of islands in the South Pacific where testing on the new atomic bomb was occurring that summer. Before the recent events, curator Josephine Fabre was to show two pieces made in 1968 by Tetsumi Kudo in which the artist sketches a nature growing after Hiroshima that mixes the organic, human and vegetal with technology : A new ecology, as Kudo likes to mention. The exhibition makes an interaction between historical pieces of the Eric Fabre collection and new works. An irradiation is possible between pieces by Kudo, Miguel Egana and Art & Language with the younger artists who show pieces dealing with noise, expansion of form, enlarged patterns, modelling of futuristic visions... BIKINI is an opportunity to reflect on information, global context, history, provocation, reduction, space, time, theme, funk, punk, rank, pop, gesture and blah blah blah. BIKINI is also a fitting name for an exhibition that, coincidentally, includes only men.
